YouTube’s native player uses 16:9. The recommended resolution is 1920×1080 as a minimum, with 3840×2160 for best quality. Uploading vertical video will have black bars on desktop.
TikTok is designed for 9:16 vertical video at 1080×1920. If you upload 16:9 landscape video, TikTok will letterbox it or crop it. Always export vertical for TikTok.
They are the same ratio expressed differently. 16 ÷ 9 = 1.778. Integer ratios (16:9) are common in video production. Decimal ratios (1.78:1) are used in cinema specs.
4:5 (1080×1350 pixels) is the Instagram portrait format. It takes up more screen space in the feed than square (1:1), resulting in more visibility and higher engagement.
